Curly Horses come from different backgrounds and bloodlines. The old ranchers and many others mixed particular American breeds into their herds based on personal preference. As this produced different types of Curlies; Classic (Morab), Western Stockhorse, Sport, Draft, Pony and Pleasure (Missouri Foxtrotter, gaited). These types are distinct however sometimes are crossed over. It was important for us to decide on bloodlines and a particular direction to breed the highest quality conformations. We believe that matching the right type is important for proper conformation, clean gaits and setting consistant results.
Excellent gaits, strong movement and good height are important for developing good Classic (old.style) and Sport (english) Curly Horses. We complement and enhance Damele/Cypress mares (Morab with racing QH and Thoroughbred ancestors) with our excellent, well-balanced Damele/Fredell/Warrior stallion to produce tall, well-moving Cassic/Sport foals. Our Classic/Sport horses come from original ABC foundation stock and are ABC, ICHO, VPPÖ or ÖZP registered.
On the plains of the old mid-western United States, Ernie Hammrich raised high quality stockhorse Curly Horses. These horses carry Native (Sioux) and Quarter Horse lines including Hard Twist and Wagonner. Strong hindquarters, heavy muscling, lower placed cowhorse necksets, make for excellent western riding horses for trail and cow work. Our Western Stockhorses come from ABC foundation stock and highest quality ICHO stock which includes stockhorse bloodlines from America and are ABC, ICHO, VPPÖ or ÖZP registered.
The influence of the appaloosa on the Curly Horse goes back to the origins of the breed. Early Curly breeders felt the Curly and the Appaloosa shared many characteristics, and old-timer Joe Mead is said to have found wild Curly-Appaloosas on Aishihik lake in Alaska. These horses are colorful, strong and showy mounts sometimes demonstrating a running walk. Our Curloosa horses come from ABC foundation stock, highest quality ICHO stock which includes the highest qualtiy appaloosa bloodlines from America. These horses are ABC, ICHO, VPPO or ÖZP registered.
