The North American (Bashkir) Curly Horse is a mysterious breed. In isolated locations of the United States and Canada a handful of these horses began to appear. Ranchers who found the horse unique for its robust nature and people-friendliness took up the cause of continuing to produce these unusual animals. Given they were so few, the ranchers crossed the Curlies to non-curly breeds, finding that the curly coat apparent in winter was given over dominantly to offspring, the American Curly Horse as we know it was born.
