Making Hay - 2007

Friends help us out with the hay!

A week of warm weather helps us bring in the hay.

This year, Erwin decided to mow all of the fields at once at Webersdorf. About 4 hectares! It was crazy, first our mowing-works was broken, so we needed help. Second we needed a push mower to trim the edges. Friends and neighbors, and the Machine-Ring helped us get the grass cut. We'd like to thank Lois Mittendorfer (the second!), Joleiden, and the Machine-Ring for mowing.

After three days drying, our regular baler Kurt Reiter came to bale, and we were starring at 967 bales on the field. Another 125 or so came from another farmer too that needed to be picked up. We would like to thank Rupert Gimpl, Karl-Heinz and Gabi Steinlechner, Thomas Kaltenbrunner, and Thomas Schachinger for helping us bring in and stack the hay. On the evening of baling this group brought in 400 bales. The next day, Rupert Gimpl, and Erwin and Karen brought in another 700 bales. Ugh. Never cut all the fields at once again! :) Here are some images of the hay this year. It was beautiful hay, and neighbors from around the area stood on hilltops to view all the bales laying at Webersdorf. As most people make big round bales, it is a seldom sight!
