Note!

We now have News in German!!! Wir haben jetzt Nachrichten auf Deustch!!!

Updates from the year 2003!

New horses for sale November 22, 2004!!

We hit 24,380 visits to our website in February! Thanks to all those who helped us reach such a high visiting rate!

We have updated our NEWS (Nachrichten) in German! Please see the German page for the last news. We have also updated the German "Unsere Herde" page with new text for all the horses! New horses are for sale/zum verkaufen!

Here Karen has placed the archive for news from 2003.

26.12.03 Stephanietag! (St. Stephan's Day). Stefanitag is a special holiday in Austria, St. Stephan is the patron saint of coach (horse) drivers and horse riders. On this day in Austria coaches and riders gather together to form a procession and ride to a holy place or church, making a round about the holy site. This ritual honors St. Stephan and in earlier times was meant to offer protection and good health to the horses that participated. We have some special picture pages to share of our St. Stephan's Day celbrations at Curlies Austria.

25.12.03 We at Curlies Austria would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We have more posts coming as we enjoy the holidays with the Curlies! Stay tuned to see some Newbie Riders aboard *Magic for the first time. Here's *Magic acting as our Christmas Curly with a very happy Karen Zierler wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season.

25.12.03 We are in the newspapers! The Oberösterreich Nachrichtuen (December 18), the Krone Zeitung (December 18), and TIPS! write articles about our Curly Horses, Curlies Austria and our work with Mr. Dobringer at the Regional Management! We have made some copies for you to you look at (the articles are in German, of course)!

23.12.03 Evelin wrote us with an update on how Woolly Bully is settling in!

"He has settled in just fine. And, he no longer shies from Bernhard. Also, lounging is going very well, he tries to show us every thing he can do but we must first practice together so that we get to know one another well. And, my nephew (Sebastian) is completely thrilled with Woolly Bully, he always says that this is his Cowboy-Horse. I find Woolly Bully totally super and I'm so happy that I chose him."

18.12.03 *RR Woolly Bully arrived in Salzburg at Evelin's safe and sound. We have some images for you of him coming out of Mr. Kainz truck, and some with Evelin and Karen. Evelin is having a wonderful time getting to know Woolly Bully, working with him and her trainer and showing no allergy reactions. Woolly Bully now lives in a large stall with other horses (Halflinger) and also Bernhard the sheep.

16.12.03 *RR Woolly Bully has landed in Luxembourg! A call from our professional hauler confirmed he was safely loaded and is now on his way to Frankfurt, Germany where he will spend the night. We would like to thank Bob Thomson, our agent in Canada for doing such a great job, and Nathalie and the gang in Luxembourg for always doing very professional work and looking after us! Here are some images of Woolly Bully heading to the airport with Verlin and Janet Rau of Rosebud River Curly Horses! Congrats guys, now we just have to await his arrival at Evelin's.

14.12.03 Karen visited *Lark today at Walter Lukas' training "ranch." *Lark looked good under saddle as Walter demonstrated just how far she has come in the three weeks she's been with him. She has a very calm and cool temperment, and is a very good representative of the western Curly stock horse. Walter works with her daily and is presently working on left and right controls. Next visit, Walter has invited Karen to take part in the training in the saddle!

Elena from Italy is planning to make her Easter Holiday a Curly one! She along with possibly her mother, grandmother and a friend plan to visit Curlies Austria for riding courses and trail rides on the Curlies, and just enjoy and test the horses. We are looking forward to her visit and a lot of enjoyable rides together. Thanks for planning to join us for Easter Elena! If you wish more information regarding riding courses, trail rides or visits to Curlies Austria, please contact us for more information.

12.12.03 Karen took *Magic out for a ride with Nici today. Nici's horse, Vera, is a very cute Halflinger, and actually *Magic isn't much bigger. *Magic behaved very well, and it seems she has built a great deal more trust in us. We can't thank Bettina Zopf enough for helping out with the round-pen work and getting *Magic settled in. She's a great riding horse. Now all she needs is some condition building, she huffs and puffs up the hill. Not like *RR Rescue Me, who takes the Grassberg easily!

10.12.03 *RR Woolly Bully was supposed to arrive today! But, the Wednesday flight was delayed until next week due to some other horses in the group not having their bloodtests in on time for the Federal Vet. Evelin and Karen can hardly stand the suspense! *RR Woolly Bully's next flight is scheduled for Monday next week!

Walter and Sylvia Kais came by from Vienna to visit the Curlies! Walter and Sylvia have been our skippers on various sailing trips and Sylvia has been riding Dressage for about 20 years. She commented on how lovely the Curly winter coats are, and also that she felt *RR Rescue Me would make a nice Dressage horse, we are hoping that after her recovery we can start preparing her in this direction with her retraining. Sylvia had some interesting Aloe Vera products for horses out of Arizona with her also, we'll be checking these out in the coming weeks. Thanks for the visit!

06.12.03 Karen brought *RR Rescue Me home from Dr. Kaun's PRO EQUO center where she has been rehabilitating. As a stall partner, *Magic was also brought down from Bettina Zopf's place where she's been doing her retraining in the roundpen to join *Rescue Me. Both mares settled into the news stalls well. We'd like to thank, Thomas Kaltenbrünner unequalled dedication to helping with the building of the new stalls for *Rescue Me, and also his father, Hans (great lights), Alex (super metal cutting) and Heinz (wonderful stall doors) for all their help and hours helping us.

30.11.03 We'd like to thank Barbara for coming by and asking after *RR Rescue Me and taking a personal interest in her well being. We'd also like to thank Bettina Zopf for bringing Martina by to see the Curlies! Martina really liked Moon, our straight hair, hypoallergenic curly with a lovely cream coat and blue eyes. Thanks for visiting!

29.11.03 The second stall is completed!! We are nearly ready for bringing *RR Rescue Me home. We just need the doors now! Karen rides *Magic at Bettina's in the roundpen, needs some improvement!

27.11.03 *Magic is brought to Bettina Zopf's place for retraining. Older horses like *Magic need some time and work out to get into the swing of a new place. *Magic was unsettled under saddle and also by lounging, so the round pen work should sort it out. Here's hoping!

*Lark was brought to Walter Lukas' ranch to begin her training. Given he's a Western Pleasure and Trail Champion in Austria, and does it all for a hobby, we feel she's in very good hands. She was very calm about the new location (and maybe just a tad bit happy to finally be rid of her daughter, Moon, who kept hanging by her side constantly, and meet some new friends). Walter was very surprised at just how calmly she took everything. He has a lot of work head of him though, as she is fairly green.

25.11.03 Karen's interview with Radio Salzkammergut is aired at 4:00pm! She is called "Salzkammerguter des Tages." As an honorary Salzkammerguter she would like to thank Florian Putz, the DJ and interviewer of the program, for his very nice work and for getting all the details about the Curly Horses perfectly correct. Curlies Austria would like to thank Mr. Dipl. Ing. Volker Dobringer for his assistance in contacting Mr. Putz about the Curlies.

24.11.03 Moon broke out of the pasture, it seems she really likes the neighbor's much longer grass over there instead of her hay ration! *Magic was very unsettled with lounging. Looks like she needs some roundpen work to settle her in.

22.11.03 Mr. Dipl. Ing. Volker Dobringer and his girl friend Norea Pischl visit the Curlies! We'd like to thank them for coming out and talking horses with us. Norea has a very lovely Friesian horse she takes care of and rides. Would love that mane on a Curly! Thanks Mr. Dobringer and Norea!

19.11.03 *RR Rescue Me is allowed to leave the Irnharting Clinic. She is thin, but has made it successfully through the first week. Karen transports her to Dr. Kaun's horse rehabilitation center PRO EQUO where she will stay for a few weeks recovering under his watchful eye.

16.11.03 Karen and Erwin visit *RR Rescue Me at the clinic, she is doing fairly well. She is not allowed to move much, and so her feet appear swollen, but other than that she is still improving and is nearly on full hay rations. Another day or so will show if she's able to take full rations of hay and head home. Next to her in other stalls were also horses which had been through similar operations. One cute little pony looked awfully uncomfortable, but at least with his small size and weight it was much less stress on the stitching!

14.11.03 The new horses have arrived! With all that has happened, it is actually a blessing to have new arrivals come and distract everyone from the stress of *RR Rescue Me's situation. *Montana Blue Magic, *Grulla Vaquera Lark and her creamy daughter Warrior White Moon, a hypoallergenic straight curly mare, all arrive safely and are placed in their own pasture. Moon's blue eyes are facinating, as are the two adult grulla colored mares, *Lark and *Magic. We have a herd of nine horses now! Please see some images of the new arrivals on our latest photos page!

12.11.03 *RR Rescue Me is operated on at 2am for colic. The clinic is an hour away and is the only one in the region without going to Vienna or Munich. *Rescue Me survived the operation successfully, having suffered from a twisted large intestine. We haven't words enough to thank Bettina Zopf for leaving her family to drive *Rescue Me an hour to the clinic in the wee hours of the morning. We also haven't words enough for Dr. Mag. Koller, who at 2 am performed the four hour long operation, and Dr. Tatar for making the right call after hours of monitoring her to take her there before it was too late. *RR Rescue Me has at least a week of observation before we will know if all will be well with her. She will then have at least 3-6 months of rehabilitation. Our hay and feed is checked and found in order. We have no known source for the problem.

11.11.03 *RR Rescue Me comes down with colic.

08.11.03 Evelin comes to visit! She rides *Rescue Me in the pastures, this time alone without leading, and has a wonderful ride. She also views the video that Verlin Rau sent to Curlies Austria showing off his horses for sale. Evelin purchases *RR Woolly Bully of Rosebud River Curly Horses, bred by Verlin and Janet Rau. Congratulations Evelin!

05.11.03 Mr. Dipl. Ing. Dobringer from the Regional Management office of Upper Austria comes to visit Curlies Austria! We cannot thank him enough for his very useful information and support.

Karen rides *RR Rescue Me up the Grassberg to the Reschenwirt Pub! Bettina and Heidi ride up the other side on Timo and Shahiel to meet up with her and enjoy the sunshine, and some good food, not to mention a beer. On the way, Karen meets up with two folks on Appaloosas that pass by going another direction, only to find out at the top of the hill that they were also headed to the same Pub! The Pub actually looked a bit odd with all those horses decked out in western gear tied to the apple trees in the fruit garden! A good time was had by all, and *RR Rescue Me shows her ability to take longish rides in good stride.

03.11.03 Clooney is doing much better, seems Dr. Kaun's magic worked.

02.11.03 Dr. Kaun is called out on a Sunday to treat Clooney. Clooney gets an infusion and some drops to help his low heart rate and low temperature. It seems he was struck by the Fühn, a hot wind coming up from the Sahara Desert to Europe which often does the same thing to people. The wind can be compared to the California, Santa Ana Winds, and can hit one's circulation system causing headaches or low blood pressure.

01.11.03 Mr. Reiter from the settlement of houses just next to our pastures came up to visit. He is an avid amateur film maker with a film club in Altmünster! He would like to make a film about the Curly horses for the club. We are delighted and can't wait to see how it all turns out.

23.10.03 Bettina brings her daughter, Mr. Doppelmayer and his son by for a visit! The kids love the horses, and the mud that is everywhere at the moment! We need to do something about the mud!

Older updates!

14.10.03 The horses are settling in, and we have some lovely photos taken from the day they arrived for you on our photo page. Curlies Austria would like to thank Thomas and Hans Kaltenbrunner for helping out in Erwin's absence, for the new water tank, hay protection, and all the odds and ends they took care of. Oh, and Heidi for the carrots. Thanks guys!

Karen visited the Riding Arena at the Aurachtal Riding Club again today to watched Bettina and Georg work through their paces under Walter Lukas' direction. Looks like Karen will have a go at it next week too on Rescue Me!

Our client Evelin has selected a horse! We will have more news on her choice next week.

09.10.03 The horses arrived safley, and everyone worked very hard all day today to get everything organized and settled in!

At 6am Karen received a phone call that the horses were in town, and they were brought and unloaded and lead up to the pastures without a problem. Glory was very skittish, and didn't want to let us remove her travelling boots. Took four people and Rescue Me to gently and calmly take off the hind boots. Thanks to Thomas for working on the stalls making them draft free, and also finishing up the new electric fencing for the yearlings, as well as a bunch of other stuff. And a big thank you to Bettina, Erich, Heidi and especially Georg "the Horse Whisperer" for help with Glory. And most important, Karen showed no allergies to all three new horses!

Everyone enjoyed getting their new saddles and looking over the new tack imported with the horses! Satisfied customers all around! Thanks for importing with us.

Rescue Me is huge! Glory is also nearly as tall, and has a lovely conformation. Billy Jack is a sweetie and follows everyone like a puppy dog. He got behind Heidi today, ran up and gave her a shove...a bit of stallion there, eh?

09.10.03 The horses are in the air! Gary at Sunnybrook Stables, who drove the horses to the airport, says they made a smooth load and went off OK, and he says they are probably over the Artic by now! They will land in Luxembourg at 18:30. Nathalie, handling our horses processing in Lux says, "I am ready to see those Curly horses ( last time my collegue saw the horses and she was really impressed about those wonderful horses and colors. ) I can not wait to see them !!!" Thanks Deanna and Gary at Sunnybrook for all the hard work (and their helper out of Denmark), and Nathalie for taking over for Daniel in Lux. Now, we just have to wait.

The tack (saddles, bridles, etc.) that we ordered are coming with the horses. Erich, our trainer Bettina's uncle, cannot wait, and we bet that he will be standing by the gate tomorrow morning bright and early to see his saddle arrive! It might be a long wait, since the horses are expected to arrive sometime midday.

Verlin and Janet Rau, of Rosebud River Curly Horses, checked in, writing that they went to the airport to see *RR Rescue Me off with a nice goodbye.

On another note, Gaby Kärcher, of Crow Curlys Germany, and Karen are working on bringing the horses in Montana over, stay tuned as information develops. Are Karen and Erwin exhausted?

06.10.03 After spending a great deal of effort working with Donna Vickery of Crow Country Curly Horses, who helped us along the way in making the right decisions, we are happy to announce the purchase of two additional Warrior bloodline horses that will be travelling with *Montana Blue Magic.

The horses are *Grulla Vaquera Lark, a four year old great-granddaughter of the famous Appaloosa Mighty Go Man (son of Mighty Bright) and great-granddaughter of Vaquero Lark, 1974 World Champion Working Cowhorse; along with her cremello hypoallergenic straight haired yearling daughter, scWarrior White Moon.

*Magic and *Vaquera are both Grulla (Dun on Black) colored, and both also carry the Creme gene for Palomino/Buckskin. *Moon's cremello coloring means that she carries two Creme genes and may possibly carry the Dun gene under all that cream. We are happy to announce that these three horses will add a wide variety of color and good bloodlines to our program. (Pictures coming soon!)

Colors *Magic and *Vaquera can produce are:

  • palomino, (creme on red [sorrel/chestnut])
  • buckskin (creme on bay)
  • smoky black (creme on black)
  • dun (dun dilute on bay)
  • grulla (dun on black)
  • red dun (dun on red)
  • dunskin (dun + creme on bay)
  • dunalino (dun + creme on red)
  • smokey grulla (dun + creme on black) like Magic herself

Two days to go before *Warrior Billy Jack, *RR Rescue Me and *DKH Glory arrive! Weather ladies say it will be good on Friday!

05.10.03 Cold rain and a chilling wind blows through our pastures. The stall is opened to the horses for the first time, and just in time to save them from a drastic change in the weather! We thank Thomas Kaltenbrunner for contributing a ton of work to build the stalls and great ideas, Hans Kaltenbrunner for his assistance in construction, Thomas Schachinger for assistance and construction of the roof, and Peter Nussbaumer for assisting with construction planning. Most of all, a big thank you to Erwin Zierler for designing and building the new open stalls, for contributing almost every free moment to getting it done before the rain came! (Pictures coming shortly!)

02.10.03 Karen heads over to the Aurachtal Riding Club to do a little on-looking! Bettina and Georg are working on their technique and also their horses' training with Lukas Walter, 1999 Western Trail Champion in Austria. Hard work but, a nice beer afterwards! Walter visited the Curlies earlier in the week, thanks for the visit!

29.09.03 We are a little behind on our German pages still, please bear with us as we get our translations done! Hubert sent us an aerial photo of our pastures and the horses! Thanks Hubert!

We are getting ready for *Glory, *Rescue Me and *Billy Jack to arrive from Canada and preparing for the coming winter! It is just a matter of waiting now, only 10 more days to go before they land on the 9th in Luxembourg! Karen is getting nervous hoping all will go well.

The situation with the Montana horses has been changing daily due to some tough weather conditions (drought) putting pressure on the horses feet. It may be that the horses we originally planned to ship will have to be changed. We'll keep you posted on developments!

23.09.03 It looks like more horses may be coming from Montana with *Magic! Keep posted here as things develop. Want a sneak preview?

13.09.03 The construction of the open stall takes most of our free time! Erwin, Thomas and Thomas (yes, that's two Thomas') assemble all the elements, join them together. They put the roof beams up using very long heavy screws. The guys begin putting the roofing boards on. Our new generator works like a charm to provide electricity to the site, and the Thomas' times two finish up the roofing with boards, and roof papers. The rain is coming, will the paper hold!?

03.09.03 Janet and Verlin Rau of Rosebud River Curlies take beloved *RR Rescue Me to Sunnybrook Stables for her quarantine. It is a heartfelt and sad parting for them all. *RR Rescue Me is Janet's riding horse, and they have raised her from a foal. Verlin and Janet have kindly bought a new, beautiful halter and lead rope for her trip to Austria and sent us pictures of her trip to Sunnybrook. Thank you Janet and Verlin, and we will keep you posted the whole way.

30.08.03 Heidi and Karen attend the Aurachtal Riding Club's Horse Games! The focus is on Parelli style obstacles. The day is cool with a cold wind blowing over the Riding Arena at the top of a hill! The morning program is in the hand, going over a teeter-totter, trotting through logs, backing through logs, not spooking at a fluttering t-shirt and staying put on a plastic tarp! The afternoon is when the riders come out. Poor Lisa, our young friend of 11 years old, is the very last having to wait the whole day to perform. She takes second place though, just behind Bettina's 3 year old ;). Heidi and Karen have forgotten the camera though...booo!

Saddles for Bettina and Erich are officially ordered! They will come with horses from Canada. See our tack page for more information. We are all excited!

In the mean time, while the girls are goofing off at a show, the men get down to business! The construction of our Winter open stall begins! Erwin and Thomas begin to screw together the beams that make up the elements/components for the walls. The stall is built such that it can be disassembled into transportable parts and reassembled somewhere else!

25.08.03 *RR Rescue Me, a mare bred by Verlin and Janet Rau of Rosebud River Curly Horses, is selected for our breeding and riding program! She is a daughter of the famous stallion, Sockeye (Joe Mead bred) and a Cypress mare, named Party Doll (please see our history and herd pages). She has been ridden successfully in trail competitions in Canada and will bring important bloodlines into our herd. Verlin and Janet Rau have supported our program and goals for a long time, we thank them for their patience, understanding and excellent communication. *RR Rescue Me will travel with our other two horses, *DKH Glory and *Warrior Billy Jack this fall. Congratuations to the Raus!

21.08.03 Our winter open stall will be built for the horses! The wood arrived on a large truck with a crane. We all watch it unload with big eyes! (Did we really order that much wood?)

20.08.03 *Montana Blue Magic, a mare from Donna Vickery's Crow Curly Horses ranch on the Crow Indian Reservation, is selected for our breeding and riding program (see our herd page). She is a wonderful and rare olive grulla color and produces palomino foals. She will fly with two horses imported by Gaby Kärcher, a German Curly Horse breeder. *Magic is currently bred to Donna's stallion, *Seeker's Warrior, a buckskin. Gaby Kärcher and Donna Vickery have supported our program and goals from the beginning. We thank them very much for their help, understanding and enduring patience! Thanks girls, and yee haw! *Montana Blue Magic has been riden as a working cow horse, and also used on a "Dude Ranch" in Montana. She is as true Western as they get.

12.08.03 Claudia and Peter Roos and their three children visit us from Bavaria! They choose a wonderful sunny day, and with their family spend three hours with the Curlies. Claudia comments how different our Curlies look in comparison to Daniela Sönchen's Curlies in Germany. The Roos' daughter loves riding but is developing allergies to normal horses. Claudia will return to try out horses trained in America and arriving in October. Thanks go to the Roos for visiting!

03.08.03 The Czeck radio program on our horses airs! Dr. Vonasek calls us and lets us know that it was very good and that the Leherbauer (Mr. Danner) and the Tourist Office in Gmunden are also part of the program which discusses local interests in our region!

23.07.03 We begin selecting saddles and other tack (Natural Horsemanship halters and ropes) for our customers out of America. (Please see our tack page).

19.07.03 Bettina dresses me in long trousers, a long sleeve shirt, a western cowboy scarf across the face, and wollen gloves! She offers me to try out riding a couple of her horses. The clothing helps and I can stand riding for 15-20 minutes on a normal horse! I gallop about and have a great time. It is the first time in 20 years (since I started having allergies to horses) that I have been able to ride again. After 20 minutes I have to quit before the asthma and allergies become to much.

15.07.03 *DKH Glory is selected for our breeding program. (Please see our herd webpage!) Now we are looking for a third horse to make the flight from Canada to Luxembourg with *Warrior Billy Jack (our black colt) and *Glory.

01.07.03 Karen is invited to take part in the ICHO Genesis project. This project sets down the rules for International Curly horse breeding and registration.

29.06.03 Hay is very important for our horses! In mega hot weather on a very steep sloping pasture, we make our first hay with the Hager family! Please see our hay page for some fun shots! Thanks Hans and Monika Hager, family and friends!

22.06.03 Our good friend Mike Knappe out of Innsbruck comes for a visit! Thanks Mike for your support and glad you had fun!

21.06.03 We being preparing for importing our next Curly horses! Please see our herd page for more information!

17.06.03 Bettina Zopf visits us. She works with all three of the horses and shows us Parelli Natural Horsemanship techniques. I notice that much of the Parelli Method is similar to older methods I learned in my youth with some additions which include using herd psychology to a greater extent. This new method is very interesting to me. We decide to offer our customers the chance to train with Bettina to learn the new method and begin work training their horses. (Please see our training page).

09.06.03 Two new neighbors, Marie Woodhams, a reporter for the Czech Radio Station 1 Radio Journal and Dr. Henriette Vonasek take a walk to meet the neighbors in the region to introduce themselves. Finding our pastures, they stand by our gate and explain who they are and ask us what we do there. After a short explanation, Mrs. Woodhams offers to make an a radio journal on the first Curly Horses in Austria including an interview with us. Karen spends an enjoyable afternoon with the two ladies. The special program will be aired in two to three weeks on the national radio station. Thank you Mrs. Woodhams!

04.06.03 Curlies Austria is official! We thank Mr. Ing. Jäger at the Wels Justice of Trade, Ms. Schragle at the Business Chamber in Gmunden, and Bernhard Seel, Business Tax Advisor in Almünster for their help and support in grounding our company.

31.05.03 Andrea and Benno, our friends from Innsbruck, visit us! benno is a carpentor and won't visit without bringing his tools with him! He works with Erwin and Thomas and the three of them build a nice Western-style gate. Will it be strong enough to hold our horses back? Erwin and Thomas build a second gate to match. They attach the gates to the fencing posts.

30.05.03 Karen mounts the electical tape onto the post for the second pasture, the pasture is now nearly ready. The is very important, since the horses have eaten most of the upper level where the first enclosed pasture was built. We receive inquiries on our Curly Horses from Germany, just by word of mouth!

29.05.03 The guys finish the fencing! Thank you Erwin and Thomas!

25.05.03 We begin building the second pasture's fencing! Erwin and Thomas pound the two meter (7 foot) wooden post into the ground. Hard work, Westmen! (Please see our fence building webpage!)

24.05.03 Evelin Dick out of the region of Salzburg writes to us that she wants very much to visit our horses. Today she had her wish. Evelin is allergic to horses and normally can not spend longer than 10 minutes near a horse. She sits close by our horses, only a meter away, while our blacksmith, Hans Bachl, trims the feet of all three horses. After this test Evelin takes Windy Sue on the lead for a walk about the field without asthma or other major allergic reactions. She spends three hours in contact with the horses, petting and sniffing them. After a time, she gets some watering in the eyes and sneezing. She wishes to come and visit another time with our trainer. Congratulations Evelin on the first step!

15.05.03 Many vistors from the region come to visit us. We thank the Katzenhofer family, Christl and Nikki Gaigg, Bäker Fredl, the Mittendorfer family, Peter Mühlegger, Lois and Hubert Pesendorfer for coming by and showing interest. Bettina Zopf, founder of the Aurachtal (or Aurach valley) Riding Club and Parelli trainer, visits our horses and expresses her interest in working with them!

04.05.03 Heidi and Karen visit the Internation Wels Horse Fair. They find the Arab Curly stallion, Mohi El Dahab and speak with Dirk Fuchs about Curly Horses in Germany, Austria, and the goals of the different breeders in Europe. They also find the ÖZP (Austrian Horse Breeding Association for Ponies, Small Horses, and Special Breeders) and speak with the representatives. The ÖZP is very helpful. The highpoints of the fair are the Connemara Ponies, the massive Shire Stallion and a top class Arabian stallion on show in the main hall. (We not telling about the shocking riding clothes we saw!)

03.05.03 Clooney starts to feel a lot better, as the Dr. Kaun's work takes affect and Clooney improves.

02.05.03 Our working cabin makes its way from Pinsdorf a few miles away to Altmüenster and is planted without problems next to the horses pastures. We thank Max Sr., Max Jr., Thomas, Rudi, the Leherbauer (Mr. Danner) and Mr. Ing. Neumann for helping us make this happen! (See our cabin webpage!)

29.04.03 Dr. Kaun, horse expert and Veternarian, visits us. Clooney has a swelling on his sensitive parts caused by tiny flies biting him. He gets a shot, and some fly oil and some detox drops.

27.4.03 The breeder, Deanna Johnson, visits us from Canada! After her flight with the foals and a visit to Germany, Deanna came to us to see the horses and enjoy traditional Austrian hospitality. Her program with us included a visit to see the Lipizzans at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, healthy portions of delicious Austrian cuisine and some home made berry liquoers from Mama Zierler. What else!? Deanna sleeps really well this night!

25.04.03 The first North American Curly Horses have arrived in Austria! All three are in good health but are very thirsty. After so many days quarantine and travelling time they are very happy to be finally tear about our fields! We welcome SS Clooney, SS Jo Jo's Nevada Promise and SS Sunnybrook's Windy Sue to Austria. Our pasture fencing is finished just in time! We thank Max Sr., Max Jr., Thomas, Heidi, Gisela and their families for all the help, and especially Sepp, who found this very lovely pasture land for us! The kids have a lot of fun (please see our pictures page from the big day!) In the night, just before we were about to leave for home, Clooney makes an attempt to cover Jo Jo! Tsk! They are all only yearlings! We have to move Clooney to a separate pastur. But, at least he knows what his job is, bravo Clooney!

24.04.03 The horses have landed in Luxembourg! They are making their way here to Salzkammergut. Our pasture fencing is nearly complete. Will we make it in time?
