Wels - 2006Wels International Horse FairCurlies Austria was invited by the new club, VPPOe to take part in the show, "Magic Horse"The new club, VPPOe, invited the Curlies to take part in a show called "Magic Horse," a fairy tale for children which presented different breeds. The horses were ridden in costume. A prince travels the world trying to find the Magical Horse, only to find out that each horse has something special. Nine breeds were represented: Berber (Tunesian costume), Andalusian (Spanish costume), Frisien (Robber), Connemara (Irish Princess), Tinker (Gypsies), New Forest Pony (Robbin Hood), English Riding Pony (Classical Dressage), Kladruber (Baroque) and the Curlies! The Curlies were ridden and presented in Native American-style costumes. The story told of how the prince travels by ship to the North American continent, and while on the Northern Plains he sees Curlies galloping across the prairie. He is told that they have healing powers. He knows of a sick little girl, and a Curly is brought to her, and she is healed. We present some impressions of "Magic Horse." The lighting was rather dark in the outdoor tent as it was very overcast, but we hope you can get some idea of what it looked like. We would like to thank Gunther and Hilde Wokurek for inviting us, and their very dedicated organization! We would also like to thank Astrid Soika-Flemming for giving permission to take *ZZ Diamond Rain to the show with us. Please note to our Native American friends and readers: the costumes worn by Curlies Austria are meant for a childrens fairy tale and are not meant to be authentic by any means. The story places the Native American and the Curly in a postive light and makes a historical connection between the two.
